![]() As with many industries, the return from the pandemic has presented challenges – particularly of workforce and budgets and Abbey was attentive to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible.Ahead of Radio 1's Big Weekend 2022 taking place in Coventry this month, BBC Radio 1 will be launching an outreach programme for young people in the city and across the UK.īig Weekend Connects will give young people the opportunity to learn more about working in the creative industries by providing them with the skills and the know-how to take those all-important first steps into their dream career.įrom Monday 16 May – Wednesday 18 May, Radio 1 will run online panels in Coventry, made up of inspirational, creative, young professionals from the West Midlands. As always it was a pleasure to see and work with Serious Stages’ operation manager, Abbey Thomas, who was a delight to deal with. The Space Roof Main Stage was adapted with large side sheds and below-stage storage to provide space for a fast-moving show with quick artist changeovers. ![]() We like the aesthetic the curved roof of the Serious Space Roof provides, it’s a smaller stage, but we worked with show designers and Frankie at Enteetainment to accommodate the production and introduce a new screen format, with large square LED’s flanking the main stage, which looked great.” ![]() “Taking the Big Weekend to a new venue means that we have to re-invent the site every year and we always want to present something contemporary / ground breaking to the fans. Particular attention was given to welfare and sustainability, as well as pulling the production team and suppliers back together, for the first large-scale post-pandemic event. Their main focus was on delivering high-quality artists’ content for broadcast and live audiences. The BBC Radio 1 Event team, headed by Tara Auty oversaw the whole event, with Festival Republic contracted to deliver the production and Enteetainment supporting them. Ed Sheeran opened proceedings, with Calvin Harris wrapping up Saturday and Harry Styles concluding Sunday’s stunning line-up. The first big outdoor music event of 2022 opened its doors on Friday 27 th for an evening of DJs, followed by two full days of live acts. BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend attracted 80,000 fans to Coventry’s War Memorial Park for a weekend featuring pop music royalty, 27 th-29 th of May, with Serious Stages supplying stages and site infrastructure.
